Rocko to the Rescue

Yesterday we went to Orem with AJ's friend Nate and his lady. We stopped by Nate's friend's house and got a chance to see his Rottweiler Rocko practicing his attack skills. Rocko has been trained with guys wearing padded suits, so Nate wanted to try it on. Rocko was definitely excited as soon as he saw the suit. This dog absolutely loves to "play" like this. He's actually very sweet when the suit isn't around.

We all wanted to see what Rocko would do if you just started running, but Nate didn't want to try that, so AJ put on the suit. You know, because AJ's tougher. He practiced with Rocko a couple times, and when it came to the running part, well, you'll have to see what happens.

AJ is actually saying "Oh shiz" right here, just to clarify.

Did I mention this dog is 105 lbs.?

AJ has a bruise on his thigh, but since it's not as cool as it was yesterday, we're not displaying any photos of it :) You could see the two teeth marks and dark purple in between. Pretty cool.

Finally getting internet at home means I finally get to show the random pictures I've been taking!

First, AJ is very proud of the work bench he built himself. I was amazed at how fast he built it, and it's very strong. He put it in our storage area, between the garage and apartment, that's big enough for us to just call it his shop. He put his welding stuff in there and I must say it's pretty amazing.

I tried to fit the whole picture in this one. I promise it's bigger than it looks.

I took this right before the Gap manager yelled at me for taking pictures in her precious store. Store policy, shmolicy. How could I resist? This is probably one of my favorite pictures of AJ.

This is before he knew I had the camera ready. He's looks kinda cute, like a cross between a homeless guy and Kevin McCallister (stealing a toothbrush in Home Alone!)

This is the view from my window at work (facing west). This was a particularly beautiful morning. Minus the parking lots.

This is my new favorite impression of Willem Dafoe. There's more I just posted on the Perkins family blog if you wanna see. Obviously, just entertaining myself with Photobooth.

Dead Camel

Another week has gone by. Wow. We had an eventful weekend. Well, not by most people's standards...AJ did tons of laundry (the laundromat had wi-fi internet) while I went grocery shopping. Until that trip we had bought basically tortillas and cheese, so this was the BIG shopping trip. Now we have food in our house! AJ built a work table to put in our storage area/shop (still waiting on my tree). I got a lot more things unpacked, organized and put in storage. We got cable and internet set up, which will be up and running tonight! So I feel like things are finally getting accomplished. By the way, out neighbors are so nice: they shoveled our driveway and sidewalk, and when they put Christmas lights up, they even put them on our side too! Awww...

This morning I got to watch my sister and her husband's slideshow from when they went to Egypt this last Thanksgiving. It's pretty entertaining if you have some free time. Seeing these photos reminded me of an episode of Man Vs. Wild that AJ and I recently watched. This was probably the most extreme thing we've seen yet. And by extreme, I mean gross. If you're not familiar with the show, this is a guy that bites into living fish and jumps off cliffs in an attempt to survive his current environment. In this one he's in the Sahara Desert. This video is not for weak stomachs: Watch

I wish we had gas

So I haven't written any updates in a while. I guess I figured I'd have to wait for more "big" news. Well, that's not happening. But I do have little news.

Last night we got home from spending Thanksgiving in Rexburg, and we realized very quickly that our apartment was an ice cube. So we check the furnace, and yep, no gas. Our gas had been turned off for at least 4 days. I went to the city offices to get our utilities taken care of, and I thought gas was included. Woops. I forgot to call Questar for gas. But doesn't Questar sound like internet? Pretty sure that's why I hadn't called them. Anyway, we were like, oh heeeeeeck we went to buy a space heater. On a Sunday...oh well. Soon after we got it set up we noticed the heater sucked. You could hardly feel any heat. We got into thermals (so attractive) and layered all the blankets we had onto our air mattress. Then AJ had the genius idea to get out a heating pad we have. I think it saved us. We were fine sleeping, but this morning we walked out into the hall and cold air just smacked us. It was awful. And let me just say, this is one of those times when you wish you could pee standing up. Holy frozen toilet seat! Obviously, no showers for us, and I even had to heat up water on the stove just to wash my face. So sad.

I called Questar today and after acquiring very personal information they told me a guy could be out TOMORROW. And what does he do? Takes some lock off of the gas. That's it, and they're making us wait. So AJ has a new friend at work that's going to let us shower at his place tonight. Thanks, Jason.

On a lighter note, I'm really excited for the Christmas tree AJ is going to make I'm going to have the coolest looking steel tree with candle holders, and it will be one-of-a-kind. And awesome.

Also, I walked into a health store to see what I could grab for lunch, and I found Pirate's Booty. Aaahhh!!! (Angel's singing) I've eaten almost the whole bag and now I'm a little ashamed. But it's so good! Those of you on the Master of Your Domain challenge may want to check it out to see if it's healthy enough.

Well, that's all for now. Better get back to work.

First days here

Well, let's just say things could have gone smoother. When we drove down Tuesday, it was ugly and raining. The previous tenant left our townhome a mess, and didn't leave Sunday like he was supposed to. So instead of our place getting cleaned Monday, it had to be cleaned Tuesday. When we saw it we were pretty disappointed; for example, the window sills had spider webs and dead stuff on the inside and bird poop on the outside. We were told the cleaning ladies were coming at 3, and the carpet cleaner at 5. When we got back from shopping, it obviously hadn't been cleaned. We did get out carpets cleaned thank goodness. By the way, this all would have been worse if we actually had any furniture.

Wednesday I started my new job. I really like it, and the people are all very easy to get along with. One of the main things I did was design a Christmas card for a client. The whole day my mind was on how our place looked and what I needed to clean, etc., so that wasn't cool. A.J. had his welding test/second interview at S&S yesterday afternoon, and he got the job! Yay! I am so excited for him. The new company he'll be working for, Boomerang, is just starting, but the owners say Boomerang will end up big enough to carry S&S. Sweet. Not to sound greedy or anything :) but it sounds like AJ will be getting raises as the company grows, and as they certify him. They were impressed with his skills. "Girls only like guys who have skills!"

Anyway, now it's Thursday, and I'm being sneaky and using my work's internet since we don't have ours yet at home. But I know you have all just been dying to hear how things have been going! AJ started his job this morning, so hopefully that goes well today. He's had a cold the last few days so I hope he can even breathe. We've been going to bed way early lately, so maybe that will help. Like 9:30 early. That should also explain why we haven't been calling much, sorry.

We love you all! Thank you everyone for your support and help. We're doin okay. But I wish it were Saturday!

It's official!

We're moving to Logan!

Digital Slant offered me a job and I accepted! Yay! We found a townhome, and even though we haven't stepped foot into it, we're moving in Tuesday and I start working Wednesday! This is going to be crazy, but we are very excited and ready to get on with our lives. So now everybody has to come visit us. And we need furniture, so it's on our Christmas list now :)

And the Office is on tonight! What a great day.

Cash Valley

A.J. and I just got back from our trip to Logan, Utah today. We got there last night, stayed in the ultra-luxurious Super 8, sat in their hot tub for 5 minutes, watched Desperate Housewives (what's Victor going to do to Gabi or Carlos?!), then we went to bed, only to be awakened by a fire alarm that went off just as we fell asleep.

This morning I had an interview at Paradym Design. I thought it went really well! The guy really liked my stuff, talked about pay, how soon I could work, and showed me the desk I would be potentially working at. So I thought dang, this guy likes me. Then we went to a place called S&S Power for AJ's interview. They build roller-coasters. He went in to talk to them about a welder position. They are splitting off and starting a separate company, and AJ would be one of the first employees, and in charge of a group. I think they are very interested, and he's going back next Monday for a second interview and weld test.

Then we decided to look at homes for a while. We've been going back and forth on buying town homes versus houses. I remember seeing a Coldwell Banker realty in town, so we talked to a lady there and she drove us around to show us several properties. She was raving about a new town home development, and we thought they were pretty nice. However, they have a >25 lb. dog rule, and AJ doesn't think he could fit his 4-runner in the garage. You see, these are very important factors for us (him). Then we moved on and looked at a home in Hyrum. It was in our price range and everything was pretty much what we wanted, but the carpet was trashed, the paint on the walls was u-g-l-y and things about the floor plan were a bit funky. AND the kitchen was tiny. But it has a cool yard that opens up into a neighborhood playground in the back, a potential 5 rooms, and a big garage. We'll probably keep looking. The realtor called later today and basically we think she'd rather get more money out of it, when we were about to call the place a fixer-upper. Oh well.

Looking for this home took so long, that we ran out of time for a nice lunch at the Coppermill. We stopped by Great Harvest for soup (yum) and then I was off to my second interview with Digital Slant. Their office is actually in the Coppermill's building. Walking through I found it strangely familiar, and then I realized that's where our family friends Amy and Justin had their wedding dinner, like 5 years ago! Anyway, that interview went very well also. I had a lot of fun talking to them, and I think I gave mostly right answers. I think I might like this place better than the other. What they offer their clients is a bit more unique, and sounds very smart. We also talked about money, how soon I could start, how I'd fit in, etc. So I would call this a very promising day for interviews. I hope I'm not being naive or overexcited, but I think we may be moving to Logan! Oh, and get this: So during my second interview, I start talking about how my husband actually interviewed at "this place that builds roller-coasters! Random! Yeah, S&S." My interviewers kinda grinned at each other as I kept talking, and then the guy was like, "that's Cami's father's business." (Cami is the other one) Um, I was sort of embarrassed that I called the place "random" but, I don't think she was offended. We laughed about it. But hey, how crazy is it that AJ and my potential employers are father and daughter? Random. Haha...

On our way out of town, we stopped at the Pepperidge Farm factory thrift store (awesome), got cookies, and headed home to Rexburg. Ladies and gentlemen, I am feelin' good. Oh, and by the way Logan is really a great town. We were very impressed. Except when I found out they don't have a Target.

Space Dog!

For Halloween I didn't really have an opportunity to dress up, so I took it upon myself to dress up Jack. Duct tape in hand, I was feeling creative and used him as my outlet. I made a little outfit completely out of duct tape and figured, okay he could be a tin man, or a can of soup, or Space Dog! He was surprisingly patient with me. I think he was more interested in stealing the tape with the loud ripping sound. Jack is a compulsive thief. When trick-or-treaters would come by, he'd run out and show them all his costume because he knew he looked so good...haha. In the beginning I made antennas, but he tried chewing them off, so after I removed them, he was a happy little Space Dog...even though in these photos he looks really, really sad. Note: the duct tape was not sticky side down.

In this one you can see his antennas that didn't really stand up anyway.Notice the chewed antenna underneath him.
Here Space Dog pees.
Space Dog senses Trick-or-Treaters from a mile away.

Blast off! Space Dog in light-speed!

Pooped after an exciting night.

Pretty sure this is by far my most ridiculous blog post yet.

Happy Halloween!

This is A.J. and my pumpkin that we carved together. We went to a couple places to find a pumpkin, but A.J. wasn't satisfied until we found this 41 pounder in Rigby! It was bigger than our friends' pumpkins ;) I found out it is very hard to take pictures of a Jack-O-Lantern with the flash on, but after many tries, I finally figured it out! (thanks Ashlee)

Lazy Sunday

Just bein lazy. I don't think AJ would ever post these himself, but hey, I think we're cute. And there won't be a lot of these after we have know, in like 10 years. ;)

is this blog.

Lately I've been feeling very BLAH and uncreative, and this blog has the coolest things on it. I should do something creative every day, like some of the things found on there. Maybe I'll start tomorrow....haha. procrastinatttiiiooonnn...

Also, although I don't even have a job in Michigan, I've been looking at homes for sale in the Grand Rapids area. If the people who called me yesterday end up offering me something, it would be there. So some of these homes are very cute, especially if I gave them some new paint. But mostly, I just have to show you guys how unreal these prices are. Yesterday on a show (in Orange County-ew) someone said, "$700,000 can't get you crap anymore." Well these will blow your mind.

I love fall

This is actually from a week or so ago when we went for a drive to Webster's Dam. I realize I take lots of photos of trees but not us, so I had Kaulana take this of us, standing on top of the dam (it's little). It was such a pretty day. If we had been there a week earlier, I'm sure there would have been a lot more bright pink leaves! But bright yellow is still amazing to see. The guys took their 4-Runners up there. This is the same area I was talking about in the post with the 4 wheelers in it, where AJ ended up breaking something. But this trip the truck survived. We had fun. If you want to see more pictures, there are some posted on AJ's NEW wheeling blog! Ooooh! It's got photos now, but I'm waiting for AJ to come home and add all the commentary himself...I figured I'd post the cute little couple picture on this blog, and not the "manly" one.

Since last time

I took these pictures a few days ago during a weird storm. You have to just pretend everythings moving toward the ground :) It started out like rock salt was falling, so I guess it was hail but really tiny. So that looked weird....but as soon as I started taking pictures, there was lightning and thunder and then bigger hail, like m&m size. Eventually there was actual big snowflakes. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. I love storms...and Rexburg is good for crazy weather.

Lately I have been on the internet searching for job listings like crazy, and trying to find decent schools with the right welding engineering program for AJ. It's quite a chore just to make sure the school's program is what he wants, then I have to search for any potential jobs for yesterday I found a really good school in Michigan called Ferris State University. From snooping on welder forums etc, it looks like a great program. I thought it would be perfect because they have several campuses throughout the state, and any job I found would be close to one. So we both were like, sure! Let's go to Michigan! But I called the school today and the program he wants is just at the main campus, so searching for jobs became more difficult. So I went back to Utah and I've spent all day e-mailing people and finding out what's around Ogden to Salt Lake. Basically, I feel like I get so close and then I'm starting over all the time. I'm sure its exhausting just reading about it :)

something's going to happen!

Even IKEA has a job opening for a design-related position....basically I think you help make signs to hang around the store. But if I did it, maybe I could get you all free furniture. Or meatballs.

Well, that's what I've been doing the last few days. Plus I'm going to get AJ's wheelin' blog up soon. I think. Goodnight Neverland!

Well today I had an interview that I was pretty hopeful about. Mostly because I thought this was one place that was actually hiring. So I was disappointed to hear that they weren't at the moment. Maybe in 2-3 months. But I did get a lot of good feedback on my work, some that was humbling, but that's a good thing for a designer. I also learned a lot about this place. It would be cool to work there, but I think I will just keep looking instead of getting discouraged. It wasn't exactly a dream job type of place, but it is a place with other very smart designers that I could learn so much from. I also wasn't at their office so I couldn't really judge their working environment. I guess it's just hard knowing I have to keep waiting, but that's because I'm just impatient. I mean come on, somebody just hire me! And pay me lots of money! But the bottom line is, the interview went well, and we'll just have to see what happens.

Wheelin Blog

I've been trying to set up a blog for AJ just for all his wheeling photos, videos, etc. but he can't decide on a name. AJOR (AJ off-road) is sort of his friends' inside joke. He does a lot of the fixing and dirty work, so its sort of his mark...anyway AJOR is taken. In fact, I visited the blog just to make sure ( ) and I'm pretty sure it's in a language from Jupiter or something. Apparently there is an extraterrestrial named Ajor. Perhaps he knows Alf.

AJ has been telling his friends about his "blog" which really does not exist yet, so let's try to find a name for it. Anything that has to do with off-roading, mud, rock crawling, 4-runners, Toyota, Idaho... you get the idea. I'm trying to help him out while I'm still unemployed. I know, coolest wife EVER (plus I have some extras time on my hands).

Ready? GO.

Guitars Unplugged

So I went to a super cool concert tonight called Guitars Unplugged at the Y of I. And I saw this really cool band. Dunno if you've heard of em: Shilo Shall See. Okay, it was Ashlee's band! Ashlee, Hailee, and Allison put the letters of their name together (I think) to create the band's name. They did a great job, and we all did a great job of cheering! And then we left and ditched the other bands after them :)

Allison on the garbage can, Ashlee on guitar, Hailee on bass guitar, and they all sang. *pat pat*

So...we made posters, but experimented with these paint marker things, and they didn't dry in time! But here's proof that we tried:

Bernie with Shelby, OBVIOUSLY the biggest fan in her custom made onesie. It was going to say "Vote for my Aunt Ashlee, or they'll send me to China." Haha! I guess this is cuter. And not so depressing.

A Fun Day

Okay, how funny is this picture? And he wasn't even posing.

This was a beautiful day. We drove to Webster's Dam in the 4-runner while the other guys, Craig, Jordan, Roger Porter and Bart Webster took their 4-wheelers. The other guys were joking that they would have to pull A.J. out... And then they did. Well almost had to. Before we could get all the way down a hill some steering components busted and his front two wheels looked like this // \\ . We made it out, verrry slooowwly, and since then A.J. has fixed it.

Megan's Wedding July 21 07

This was a beautiful day, and I have to admit, I was a little jealous that the sun came out for my sister's wedding and not mine. Haha! But I'm over it. Introducing the new Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Parker....

Okay, now look at us! haha.

The new, updated Perkins Family...

Her photographer thought it would be toootally adoreable to capture this moment.

Daniel checking out Megan. Because he was told to. But he didn't have to be asked twice!

This is one of A.J.'s passions, and a really fun thing for me to get to ride along with him. He has a few friends he does it with.

A.J. showing how flexy his 4-runner is!
Here doing a better job of showing off.

Pulling Tommy's Jeep out of the mud. This happens sometimes, so it's good they usually go in a group. And by sometimes I mean a lot.
At the dunes there's a spot that's like a natural half-pipe. It's quite a thrill. A.J. brought his friends to show them how it works: You drive up one side. When you get to the top, you throw it in neutral and roll backwards (blindly-no looking back), where you end up vertically again, tail-end in the air, with you staring straight down at the dirt. And then you keep going if you haven't already wet yourself. These are his friends trying it out:

Another day, rock crawling. A.J., Kalana, Tommy.

I know these are old, but I'm trying to catch you all up!

Jared and Jenni s00n-to-be Frisby :) I'm pretty sure this picture had something to do with them getting engaged..."Hey A.J., I'm taking a picture of the Golden Gate that I can see between your legs!" This picture shows our true colors. I must also note this is now set as our desktop background image.
This street gives me mini Anxiety attacks. Glad I wasn't driving. Even more glad I don't live on Lombard St.
Someone scaring seagulls that were perfectly content watching the sun set. Oh wait! That's A.J.!

This is A.J. grinning after he just ran through a "flock of seagulls." Just to scare them. (He's so satisfied)
